The pedal is very transparent tonewise but adds compression in mode 2 and 3. Mode 3 (downwards) has so much gain and I think the sound is like a soft, wooly fuzz in some terms. I don't use that much gain so I really didn't try it much. But the other two modes is a different story.
The absolute favourite is the cleanboost mode. It adds shimmer to the original tone and doesn't offer a lot of drive. I would go so far to compare it to a Klon in that sense. Transparency, clarity, warmth, fatness, and without Klons midfocus if setting the drive at higher settings. And in mode 1 it's getting close to what the Dynabox does, but maybe a little smoother. And I can quite fast dial in some of my favourite sounds like Hendrix Axis, John Mayer Trio. And like the Dynabox it keeps the character of both the guitar and amp.
In mode 2 there's plenty of drive on tap. And thanks to the Hyper Rustbox's versatility you could easily cover a lot of ground. From fat bluesy to more heavy type of sounds. I liked this mode the most in conjunction with the hyperswitch on. It's a lot louder so I set the volume around 9 a'clock for unity. And the pedal cleans up and is less compressed then without hypermode. It's like running the pedal at higher voltage (12-18V).
And it's very stackable and works well with my other pedals (Reverend Drivetrain II, Timmy, Honey Bee)
I like this pedal alot and it's hard to find another pedal as versatile.
I would like to thank the guys at Dino's: you're doing a great job and these pedals will definitely be heard of in the future.
